Changing Needs & Scholarships to Meet Them

It’s hard to believe that a year ago Wisconsin Youth Company had to drastically change how we meet the needs of families due to a global pandemic. We were forced to shut down programs with very little notice. Programs remained closed for almost three months. Once we were able to safely open re-open programs, we changed the way we operated due to the new guidelines put in place. Sometimes I wonder if we will ever go back to the way things were before the pandemic.

I’m glad to say that even after all of the change that has happened, one thing remains the same: Wisconsin Youth Company is still committed to the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive beyond the school day. Many years ago, in order to make programs accessible to every child, Wisconsin Youth Company established a Tuition Assistance program. This program allows families who otherwise would not be able to access programs due to financial barriers the opportunity to attend. Over the past ten years we have been able to provide a scholarship for every family who has requested assistance.

If you are a parent that has a short-term need; a medical issue, a loss of a job, or maybe you are a student and are unable to work a full-time job, even if you don’t qualify for public assistance, Wisconsin Youth Company is here to help. We look at each individual situation and are able offer scholarships to families who need it.

In August 2020, many school districts made the tough decision to make the school day virtual. Families found themselves needing help during the day when children would have otherwise been in school. WYC was able to safely operate full-day programs to assist families in navigating virtual school days. Because of these changes in the school day and the need for all full-day care, families found themselves with program fees that were much costlier than ever before. Many of these families did not qualify for any outside assistance. WYC’s Tuition Assistance program was able to award scholarships to every single family that needed it. It is amazing to me that no family was turned away due to an inability to pay for program.
