Hot lunch is available through the school. Please work with Cushing to set up this option.

If not receiving hot lunch, Parents must send a sack lunch that must not require refrigeration or microwaving; milk is provided. • Under DCF state licensing, children are required to have a blanket at nap time. Please send a blanket with your child. You may also send a small pillow or stuffed animal. All items will be kept in a tote at program.
  • During rest time, the lights will be turned off and quiet music will be played. Children that do not choose to sleep may be given permission to play with small manipulatives near their mat.
  • At the end of each week, child(ren)’s items and rest sheet will be sent home to be washed and returned to program. It is important that Parents send the items back with their child on the following Monday.

Happy December!

The class will continue to learn the days of the week, months of the year, written number recognition (1-20), letters of the week (I-K), and the different holidays people all over the world celebrate in December. We will also get to enjoy a holiday party before our winter break.

The children have been enjoying the snow outside. They have been so creative with the snowmen, forts, and obstacle courses they have been inventing in the snow.

The entire class impresses me every day, with how inclusive they are with each other and flexible with one another. In the beginning of the school year, we worked on whole group with cooperative ways to earn prizes for the class. It has been amazing to see them work together and build bonds with each other. And since that was going so well, this month, we started individual sticker charts for each student to earn stickers for good behavior such as sharing, being kind, helping each other/teacher, following class rules, etc. They get to earn small prizes at 10, 20, and 30 sticker milestones. Some of you may have already seen some of the prizes they have brought home.

The class has been wonderful, and I always look forward to the next day with them.

It is starting to snow! Please have your kids bring a snow jacket, hat, gloves, snow pants (if snow is on the ground), and snow boots. Cushing doesn’t allow kids on the playground if they do not have snow pants or boots when there is snow on the ground. They would have to stay on the black top if they do not have those items.

Thanks,
Lorna

Dear families,

What a wild November we had! Between the 70-degree days and the freezing temperatures, we had to be flexible with our recess time gear. The children have been working so diligently to be able to get on all of their snow gear self-sufficiently. Keep working on this skill at home; I can really see the difference here at school.

We will continue to work on the letter of the week activities. The children love to make crafts from the letters of the alphabet. For the letter C, we made a catapult out of popsicle sticks and they loved catapulting things across the classroom. I hope they shared this with you at home.

We look forward to the month of December and all the holiday related activities we will be engaging in!

Ms. Van Mullem

Dear families,

November seems to have flown by just as fast as the other months. It’s hard to believe we are already into December and we already have snow on the ground. The children have been super excited to get outside and play in the snow. With that being said, please remember to have your children bring all of their snow gear to school every day. All of After School children, no matter what grade, need to wear snow pants and boots to be able to go in the snow.

During November we continued to learn some more ASL. The children have mastered their name in ASL. It was a surprise to see how many picked up on it so fast and how many have really taken an interest in learning more.

The children worked on a four-season project, during this project they had to dab paint dots on a sheet of paper in four different sections. Each section was a different season. They had to dab the colors that made them think of a certain season in that section. This was a great way to hear why they thought a certain color made them think of a season. When they bring home this project, try and guess which season is in each section. Some are harder than others to guess. Ask them the reason why a certain color made them think of that season.

Another fun project the children loved to do was turkey donuts. They took a glazed donut and stuck toothpicks on top of the donut and added fruit loops to the toothpicks. They took half of a fruit loop for the beck and half for the gobbler. For the eyes they use edible candy eyeballs.

I want to thank all of the children of After School for making such a wonderful Congratulations card to come back to, after having some time off to tie the knot. They all did an amazing job on it; it looked amazing. Thank you all!

This month the children look forward to making teacher gifts for the holidays. This time of year, the children work together to make gifts for all of the teachers together. This is a great opportunity for the children to work together as a team to get the gifts done in time to hand out before winter break.

Thanks,
Stephanie
