Daily Activities

Wisconsin Youth Company 4K wrap teachers will create weekly lesson plans tiered to the children’s interest. Our 4K wrap program helps your child to discover new opportunities through our choice-based curriculum. Within daily activities, children will have a chance to participate in STEM, art projects, community building games, and other various hands-on activities to expand their developmental growth. Along with developing important life skills such as language, social, and emotional skills.

There will be time for daily outdoor play (weather permitted) where children will participate in group games and explore the playground.

Lunch

Hot lunch is available through the school. Please work with Cushing to set up this option.

If not receiving hot lunch, Parents must send a sack lunch that must not require refrigeration or microwaving. Some children have life-threatening allergies (like a peanut or tree nut allergy). For this reason, Wisconsin Youth Company requests that children bring a nut-free lunch.

Snack

  • A morning and afternoon snack will be provided, along with milk
  • All snacks served at program are nut-free
  • All children must wash hands with soap and water before and after eating
  • Please see the Wisconsin Youth Company Program Handbook for more details about snack

Rest Time

  • Each day, there will be a 30-minute rest time for children. Wisconsin Youth Company will provide a padded mat and sheet for your child to lay on.
  • Under DCF state licensing, children are required to have a blanket at nap time. Please send a blanket with your child. You may also send a small pillow or stuffed animal. All items will be kept in a tote at program.
  • During rest time, the lights will be turned off and quiet music will be played. Children that do not choose to sleep may be given permission to play with small manipulatives near their mat.
  • At the end of each week, children’s items and rest sheet will be sent home to be washed and returned to program. It is important that Parents send the items back with their child on the following Monday.

Get to Know Ms. Ellyn:

My favorite winter activity is going on walks to see all the snow-covered trees and building a snowman with my daughter. I am not a big fan of the cold so I’d rather be inside baking or making a fun craft with my daughter.

February Recap:

In February, we talked about the letters L, H, V, and W. We practiced writing the letters and finding objects around the room that started with that letter. Some of the projects the class really enjoyed were making lemonade from fresh lemons, using baking soda and vinegar to make volcanoes, and our heart candy science experiment.

Our dramatic play area was a pet shop this month. We set it up with pretend pet food, leashes, lars, and stuffed animals. This was a huge hit for the class! They loved taking their pet snakes or birds on a walk. Our sensory bin this month was filled with cookie mix, measuring cups, cookie cutters, and cupcake tins.

March Happenings:

We have lots of fun plans for March! Dr. Seuss week is the first week in March, so we will be having a fun themed sensory bin and reading a lot of Dr. Seuss books. We also have St. Patrick’s day in March, so we will have a St Patrick’s Day sensory bin too. One of the projects we will be doing is making rainbow paper chains and a gold coin scavenger hunt around the classroom.

Our dramatic play for the month of March will be a snow cone shop! We will have cups, straws, and pretend snow cones to sell.

Get to Know Staff:

Mrs. Stephanie is looking forward to having a relaxing week off with no scheduled plans but to stay home and possibly craft, read, and have some family time this spring break.

Ms. Ellyn is looking forward to Brewers’ opening day, spending time with her daughter, and celebrating her daughter’s birthday.

January & February Recap:

January felt like it took forever to get through, as February flew right by us. However, we were still able to get some cute Valentine crafts in, along with other activities.

For Valentine’s Day, we crafted heart people out of model magic, made Valentine’s tic-tac-toe out of air-dry clay, and created magnetic candy hearts.

Make sure to ask your 3rd through 5th graders about the little critters they made during After School. They all turned out to be cute! If you have a child in 4K through 2nd grade, ask them about their flashlight artwork. It is super amazing how they work. The biggest hit craft of the month was the rocket racers.

March Happenings:

In March, the kids always look forward to seeing what the sneaky leprechaun is going to do in Before and After School. Usually, he likes to dye our milk green every year. This year, the kids asked if they could make a trap for him.  We will let you know if it works.

We are hoping that Mother Nature keeps giving us nicer weather to get outside more and enjoy more time outside.

Family Engagement:

February Weekly Jokes:

Joke: What has a heart thadoesn’t beat?
Answer: An artichoke.

Joke: What has teeth but can’t bite?
Answer: A comb.

Joke: How many sides does a circle have?
Answer: Two (inside and outside).

Joke: What is light as a feather but even the strongest man can’t hold it for more than a few minutes?
Answer: His breath.
