Wisconsin Youth Company 4K wrap teachers will create weekly lesson plans tiered to the children’s interest. Our 4K wrap program helps your child to discover new opportunities through our choice-based curriculum. Within daily activities, children will have a chance to participate in STEM, art projects, community building games, and other various hands-on activities to expand their developmental growth. Along with developing important life skills such as language, social, and emotional skills.

Lunch

Hot lunch is available through the school. Please work with Cushing to set up this option.

If not receiving hot lunch, Parents must send a sack lunch that must not require refrigeration or microwaving. Some children have life-threatening allergies (like a peanut or tree nut allergy). For this reason, Wisconsin Youth Company requests that children bring a nut-free lunch.

Snack

  • A morning and afternoon snack will be provided, along with milk
  • All snacks served at program are nut-free
  • All children must wash hands with soap and water before and after eating
  • Please see the Wisconsin Youth Company Program Handbook for more details about snack

Rest Time

  • Each day, there will be a 30-minute rest time for children. Wisconsin Youth Company will provide a padded mat and sheet for your child to lay on.
  • Under DCF state licensing, children are required to have a blanket at nap time. Please send a blanket with your child. You may also send a small pillow or stuffed animal. All items will be kept in a tote at program.
  • During rest time, the lights will be turned off and quiet music will be played. Children that do not choose to sleep may be given permission to play with small manipulatives near their mat.
  • At the end of each week, children’s items and rest sheet will be sent home to be washed and returned to program. It is important that Parents send the items back with their child on the following Monday.

Ms. Ellyn’s fun fact of the month:

I love all holidays but Christmas is one of my favorites. I love to decorate, bake cookies, and listen to holiday music. Let me know in an email or text what holiday you celebrate in December! I would love to include everyone in the celebration.

November in review:

November was a little shorter with all of our days off, but we still managed to learn the letters D, E and F! Some of our favorite activities we did for each letter were: salt dough dinosaur fossils, elephant ring toss, and playing our fall memory card game.

We also talked about leaves and why the trees change colors in fall. We went on a couple of leaf hunts around the school and made projects with the leaves we found.

A few of our favorite books we read this month were “The Leaf Thief,” Piggy and Elephant books and “If You Give a Dog a Donut.”

A look into December:

December is going to be a fun month. We will talk about all of our family traditions and some of the different holidays celebrated around the world. We will also learn the letters G and H. Some fun projects I have in mind are gingerbread ornaments and a Grinch day!

Get to Know Staff:

Mrs. Stephanie loves this time of year. All the fall colors and fall scents. However, she is not a fan of pumpkin flavor or scent; apple cinnamon is more her style. The best part for her is that first snow. Not to where it sticks and stays, but just enough to see it fall and disappear on the ground.

During November, Ms. Ellyn took a family trip to Disney. All the kids wished the could have gone along. Florida weather sounds better than Wisconsin weather right now. While on her trip, she did a lot of fun activities and visited a lot of attractions.

November Recap:

November was a month of gratitude. We took time each week to discuss and read about gratitude. As the month went on, we continued activities and projects that went along with Thanksgiving and being thankful. One of the projects the kids loved was making scarecrow wreaths. The kids got involved in a STEM activity and learned how to make a pumpkin smoothie before going on Thanksgiving break.

As the weather gets cooler, we are still going outside as much as we can. This is the perfect time to dig out the warmer gear. We have extra gear for the kids to use, however, we do not have enough to go around for everyone. We ask that you please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate gear for the temperature. This includes a warm jacket, gloves or mittens, hat, and if there is snow, snowpants and boots for all grades. Please see the weather chart on the right to see what clothing is required based on temperatures. This is a licensing requirement that we must follow.

December Happenings:

We all know the best part of December everyone is looking forward to is winter break. But before we get into winter break, we are going to work on a lot of fun activities and crafts. We are going to learn a little about different holidays during this time. We will read a book about another holiday and incorporate an activity to go with it. We will also talk about the different traditions families have during the holiday season. If you have a tradition your family does, please feel free to share that with us by writing it out on paper for your child to share.

Family Engagement:

One thing Mrs. Stephanie loves about working with children is their creativity and imagination. A great example of that is when Lawsen took the pop-it pieces from the Tetris board and made an Oompa Loompa holding a lollipop, and a candy bar with a golden ticket on it. Check out the photo in the gallery.

We would like to also take the time to say get well soon, Mason. Everyone here at After School is thinking of you and wishing you well. We all can’t wait for you to get back to After School, but don’t rush your recovery. We are all here waiting for you when you’re well and strong enough to come back. Tell Bee-nut and Hufflepuff they are thought of, too.

If you missed the November jokes, here is a look at what you missed:

Question: What smells the best on Thanksgiving?
Answer: Your nose

Question: What do you call a sad cranberry?
Answer: A blueberry

Question: What can you call a turkey that’s running away?
Answer: Fast food
