Daily Activities

Wisconsin Youth Company 4K wrap teachers will create weekly lesson plans tiered to the children’s interest. Our 4K wrap program helps your child to discover new opportunities through our choice-based curriculum. Within daily activities, children will have a chance to participate in STEM, art projects, community building games, and other various hands-on activities to expand their developmental growth. Along with developing important life skills such as language, social, and emotional skills.

There will be time for daily outdoor play (weather permitted) where children will participate in group games and explore the playground.

Lunch

Hot lunch is available through the school. Please work with Cushing to set up this option.

If not receiving hot lunch, Parents must send a sack lunch that must not require refrigeration or microwaving. Some children have life-threatening allergies (like a peanut or tree nut allergy). For this reason, Wisconsin Youth Company requests that children bring a nut-free lunch.

Snack

  • A morning and afternoon snack will be provided, along with milk
  • All snacks served at program are nut-free
  • All children must wash hands with soap and water before and after eating
  • Please see the Wisconsin Youth Company Program Handbook for more details about snack

Rest Time

  • Each day, there will be a 30-minute rest time for children. Wisconsin Youth Company will provide a padded mat and sheet for your child to lay on.
  • Under DCF state licensing, children are required to have a blanket at nap time. Please send a blanket with your child. You may also send a small pillow or stuffed animal. All items will be kept in a tote at program.
  • During rest time, the lights will be turned off and quiet music will be played. Children that do not choose to sleep may be given permission to play with small manipulatives near their mat.
  • At the end of each week, children’s items and rest sheet will be sent home to be washed and returned to program. It is important that Parents send the items back with their child on the following Monday.

We started off November reviewing letters C and D. A few fun projects we did were puffy paint cupcakes and cat paintings. For letter D, we had two days of dinosaur activities. We practiced our number order by gluing stegosaurus spikes onto our dinosaurs. We had a dinosaur scavenger hunt. Each child got to find three dinosaurs hidden around the room.

December is a fun and cold month. We will be working on a lot of projects to decorate our classroom by making snowmen and snowflakes. We will work on the letter E. The class will work on making a special gift to send home for their families.

Thank you,
Ms. Ellyn

Hello Cushing families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Hopefully, no one overstuffed themselves. It is crazy to think we are soon in a new year. Time sure does fly. During November, we enjoyed all the time that we could be outside. Since daylight saving time ended, we have been going outside sooner. This was a change for all the kids, and they all transitioned wonderfully. We even took time outside to play in the leaves and enjoy the beautiful colors that fall brings.

Ms. Stacey visited with a storytime for the children, along with a fun thankfulness fall tree craft. All the kids really enjoyed her storytime. If they are talking about it at home, they can go on YouTube and watch Ms. Stacey in action. Some children have already watched her story videos! A few ways you can find her on social media are Facebook @staceysstorytime, YouTube @storytimewithstacey, and Instagram @storytimewithstacey. It is all kid-friendly with stories and activities. Ms. Stacey will join us for another storytime Thursday, December 12 at 3:30 p.m.

As we get into the holiday season, we will start our annual teacher gifts for the staff at Cushing. The children look forward to every year. We usually plan what to make the year before as we are making that year’s gifts. This year, we did not have a plan set in place a year in advance, as I was out last year during this time. So this year it is a quick turnaround on what they decide to do. Make sure you ask your child what was decided for the teacher gift.

As we get into December and the winter season, I want to take some time to remind everyone to dress for the colder weather. We will continue to go outside if it is not raining, and temperatures are above zero. With snow coming this season, please send all your child’s winter gear every day to school, for all grades. I know the rules are different for some grades at Cushing, however WYC rules are different. No matter what grade your child is in, they must all have snow gear to play in the snow.

Thank you,
Ms. Stephanie
