Hello Elm Lawn families!

Throughout February, we spent our time with projects and activities such as playdough creations, scavenger hunts, claw machine creations, and many more! We hope to continue the fun through March with projects and activities surrounding themes of music, dance, and more.

For March, I will focus on unique projects such as Noodle Day, Origami Day, and Fossil Day. I know my team and I can come up with some creative lesson plans for those days and I would also love to get the students’ input on what they want to do. Letting everyone get a voice at program is what I strive for and I believe it’s a great way to build community.

We are also over halfway to filling up the After School marble jar. This time around, we, as a group, are working to earn marbles for kind choices. Some of the kind choices that kids have been calling out recently include teaching each other how to make different crafts, helping someone clean up when they accidentally spill something, and helping get forgotten items from lockers. If they continue the great work, we are looking forward to having our first marble jar party this month.

One of the projects that the children really enjoyed recently was slime. Here is how we made it last time:

You will need:

  • Glue (clear glue works best for glitter slime recipes)
  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Contact solution
  • Glitter
  • Food coloring
  • Bowl
  • Spoon

In the bowl, add about 1/3 cup glue, ½ tsp. of baking soda, and 2 tbsp. of water. Add desired glitter and food coloring, and stir into the glue mixture. Slowly add the contact solution (around 1 tbsp. at a time) and stir. Once the slime doesn’t stick to the bowl, you can start to play with the slime.
