Daily Activities

Wisconsin Youth Company 4K wrap teachers will create weekly lesson plans tiered to the children’s interest. Our 4K wrap program helps your child to discover new opportunities through our choice-based curriculum. Within daily activities, children will have a chance to participate in STEM, art projects, community building games, and other various hands-on activities to expand their developmental growth. Along with developing important life skills such as language, social, and emotional skills.

There will be time for daily outdoor time (weather permitted) where children will participate in group games and explore the playground.

Lunch

Hot lunch is available through the school. Please work with the school to set up this option.

If not receiving hot lunch, Parents must send a sack lunch that must not require refrigeration or microwaving. Some children have life-threatening allergies (like a peanut or tree nut allergy). For this reason, Wisconsin Youth Company requests that children bring a nut-free lunch.

Snack

Rest Time

  • Each day, there will be a 30-minute rest time for children. Wisconsin Youth Company will provide a padded mat and sheet for children to lay on.
  • Under DCF state licensing, children are required to have a blanket at nap time. Please send a blanket with your child. You may also send a small pillow or stuffed animal. All items will be kept in a tote at program.
  • During rest time, the lights will be turned off and quiet music will be played. Children that do not choose to sleep may be given permission to play with small manipulatives near their mat.
  • At the end of each week, children’s items and rest sheet will be sent home to be washed and should be returned to program the following Monday.

Dear families,

Our favorite project last month was learning the lifecycle of pumpkins. They learned each step and grew their own pumpkin by planting their bottoms on their circle time spot. When everyone grew their pumpkin, we carved a real pumpkin as a group.

In December, we will learn letters G, H, I. We learn these by letter tracing with paint dabbers, pencils, and playdough. This month we will add in tracing the letters of their name. Want a great way to help your child learn to write letters? Create the letters as dots. Then, connect the dots.

Holiday cheer is in the air. From letters to Santa, making our own ornaments and decorations, decorating their own Christmas cookie, and helping Santa find his reindeer, we will bring the cheer. We will practice our letters when writing a letter to Santa. We will practice counting Santa’s reindeer and cookies. We will learn more about shapes when we make ornaments and decorate Christmas cookies.

We will make a winter wonderland sensory globe for the class and come up with a Christmas gift to donate to the class. It will most likely be a toy that everyone in our class will enjoy.

During the holiday season our before school, after school, and 4K wrap programs will create a community service project to practice the act of giving. Stay tuned for more information on what that will look like.

We will talk about winter weather and learn the most efficient way to put on winter gear. Children like to put their gloves on first and then can’t zip their coat. So, we will make sure to do that last. Some fun will include making their own snow.

In January, we will talk about the new year and come up with a classroom goal. We will practice letters J, K, L, M, N. We will learn the months of the year. We will learn other traditions that are celebrated by different cultures. Learning the Chinese New Year and their zodiac sign are going to be lots of fun!

Shoutouts

Chase’s creativity and inclusion has influenced the whole class in such a great way. He created his own friend out of woodchips named “Chitter Chatter.” This guy is your friend and helps you with whatever you want. Children are now making their own “Chitter Chatter” to hang out with them and help them.

We asked the class: What is a place you’re thankful for?

  • Henry: Hotel
  • Kaden: Culver’s
  • Bo: Sky Zone
  • Cooper: Celebrating at home because my dad is coming home
  • Chase: Going everywhere with Mr. Bear
  • Kiellian: Chuck E Cheese and Sky Zone
  • Emmie: Going to Florida
  • Finn: Going to Alaska

What toy are you thankful for?

Bo: Pokémon

  • Kiellian: RC car
  • Cooper: Drawing
  • Emmie: Giraffe toy
  • Finn: Tractor
  • Kaden: Scooba diving toy
  • Henry: Dirt bike toy
  • Chase: Turkey

Would you rather be friends with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or Santa’s Elfs?

  • Rudolph: Chase, Kiellian, Finn, Cooper
  • Santa’s Elfs: Henry, Emmie, Kaden

Get to Know Ms. Olivia:

  • Favorite color: Purple
  • Something important to me: Advocating for mental health
  • You’ll never see me without: A bottle of water
  • Would you rather be friends with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or Santa’s Elves? Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Thank you,
Ms. Olivia

In November, I took note of what each program is interested in doing for projects. One of the biggest hits was dedicating a whole week to sensory and slime activities. During the sensory and slime week, we made stress squish balls, lotion slime, and Oobleck. We had so much fun getting messy and creating slime creations! Check out our pictures to see all the fun we had in program.

For December, Before and After School programs will do a month-long service project. Each holiday season our programs pick a local organization to donate items too. These items are then brought to the organization at the end of the month. In past years we have donated items in need for HAWS, wrote cards to local senior communities, and made homemade heat packs for seniors. Keep an eye out for more information on which service project we pick for this holiday season.

Would you rather: Only be allowed to listen to Christmas carols for a year or have to make toys for a year?

Children: Make toys all year long

Mrs. Alex: Listen to Christmas carols all year long

Thank you,
Mrs. Alex
