Hello families,

We focused on winter fun to kick off the New Year. We played Frosty says. We enjoyed our winter storm science project. We talked about our visit from Santa and what he left at our home. We had a great time having a hot cocoa party at ‘Starbucks’ in the classroom.

February is going to be packed full of exciting events. One of the themes for February is “Love is in the Air,” and we will have a small Valentine’s Day party. Another activity we will be doing is guessing how many candy hearts we can hold in our hands. We will try to predict if the Groundhog will see his shadow, as well as making pet rocks. Our fun food Fridays are a great hit, and we will keep doing them.

Hello families,

It’s hard to believe we’re already in the new year! This last month we focused on winter activities. We started with snow and ice, which incorporated a few science lessons. We did a winter sports week, which brought in indoor ice hockey, cotton ball snowball fights, and the children practiced shoveling! We enjoyed our Pokémon theme too.

February is going to be packed full of exciting events. We will start the month off with Groundhog’s Day and learn what it means. Hopefully we can predict an early Spring! We will have a Valentine’s Day party the following week. I will ask each child to bring in a box of some sort to put their Valentines in. If you would like to decorate your child’s box with them before bringing it in, please do! I will have decorative items at the school for them. The children seem to enjoy having “homework,” so any families that want to do it together absolutely can!

On February 15, we will have special guests from Arrowhead High School’s HOSA program. This group is future health care providers, and they run a program called “The Teddy Bear Clinic.” They will come into our class to teach the children about personal hygiene, including proper teeth cleaning and hand washing. They demonstrate on teddy bears, which the children can keep afterwards. I am excited for this presentation, and I know the kids are going to love it. We will also continue our fun food Fridays. I’m so excited to work more with the kids and the lesson plans they have put together for the remaining months!

Hello Merton Families!

In December, we were busy working on our presents for our families. The children loved how the projects turned out. While we were working on holiday gifts, I asked the children to come up with a list of activities and projects they would like to do for a kids’ choice week. I was blown away with the activities these children had planned. Some of them I have never heard of or seen. We were all excited, so we chose to do these fun activities the first week we were back. We wanted to start the new year with fun, so we made OObleck. This is a slime made of cornstarch and water, and it can act as a solid or liquid. We also made many kinds of slime through science experiments. It was a great start to the new year, and I know we will do many more fun things throughout our time together for the rest of the year.

February is going to be another month of fun! We have special days to look forward to including Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Mardi Gras. We are going to have fun projects and activities to celebrate these special days. LET’S HOPE FOR AN EARLY SPRING! We are going to do a fun Friday board game once a month. If you have any suggestions of a favorite game you like to play, please let me know.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out: cmcneil-reinke@wisconsinyouthcompany.org.
