Happy May!

I can’t believe we are in the home stretch of the school year!

In April, we focused on letters S, T, U, V, and W. Some of our activities included having popcorn seeds in our sensory table during letter S week, learning to play tic tac toe during letter T week, and reading a funny book, “You DON’T Want a Unicorn,” during letter U week.

In May, we are looking forward to finishing up the alphabet by learning about letters X, Y, and Z. We are also hoping for warmer weather so we can play outside a bit longer, and enjoy our final days together.

A big thank you to all the families who attended our Family Gathering back on April 8. The kids enjoyed having moms and dads visit and help out with fun art projects and snacks!

So, what will Ms. Lisa be doing over the summer? I will be at Camp Connection, here at Merton this summer. I will be the Assistant Day Camp Director, helping Ms. Samm run awesome activities and field trips for all our campers! If you happen to be around or see us out and about, don’t forget to say hi!

Thank you,

Ms. Lisa

Thank you to all the families who made it out to our family gathering in April. It was so wonderful to have a little extra time to see you all! Over the last two months, our class enjoyed learning about spring themes such as garden, weather, and flowers. We did lots of fun experiments and read funny stories. We also loved celebrating St Patrick’s Day and Easter in our class together. We have had an additional focus on math games since the students have become increasingly interested! We also covered letters Q-U.

Over the next month and half, we will move more of our classroom activities outdoors to capitalize on the nice weather. We will finish going through the alphabet so the students are more confident in all their sounds and writing for next year. We will also touch on summer themes such as ocean, camping, zoo, and farm!

Sadly, this is already the last newsletter for our class; it will be summer before you know it! Thank you for such a wonderful school year. Your children have all been a blessing to teach. Wishing you all the best this summer and next school year.

For those of you who may not be aware yet, my small family is about to grow from a family of three to a family of four! Our second girl on the way, due August 23. We are so excited about our wonderful blessing! The kids grow more excited about the baby each week as my belly grows.

Ms. Abby

What a year it has been! I cannot believe we are already near the end. We are close to wrapping up our alphabet. We have started reading full sentences, while continuing to practice sight words. We learned that salt and watercolor painting is one of our new favorite art activities, and we all have really enjoyed food projects throughout the year. We have made so much art, learned new skills, and learned a lot of new games this year!

In May, we will finish up the alphabet, as well as review the alphabet as a whole. We will continue to work on reading full sentences, after working on sight words these past few months. As the weather gets warmer, we will go outside more often. I am hoping to have lunch outside some days, weather permitting. I am also planning outside activities, such as tie-dying, nature scavenger hunts, and obstacle courses.

It has been such a wonderful year with all of the children! For my first year with Wisconsin Youth Company, I truly could not have asked for a better group of children. They have made my days so full of laughter and love. Watching them grow into their personalities this year has been so fun! Seeing all of their hard work this year paid off. They are reading, writing, and problem solving on their own, and it has been extremely rewarding. I hope everyone has the best summer ever and is so excited to start kindergarten!

Thank you,

Ms. Holly

Happy May!

Crazy to think the year is coming to an end, I’m still in disbelief. The months of March and April flew by, and it was a blast. We loved our movie party in Before School, we watched the Disney movie classic “Luck of the Irish” and I must say as a 90s kid, I was so proud of how much every single child loved it. In After School, they had a great pizza party while watching Ratatouille. Both programs earned these days by showing they can be kind, respectful, and responsible to themselves, each other, and the classroom. Way to go!

We enjoyed our spring gathering in After School; thank you to all who attended! It was a blast. Our group in Before School had been asking me for a while now for a hot dog party. They were told to continue reaching our goals of responsibility and respect, and they did a phenomenal job! They did indeed earn their hot dog (and pancake) party to celebrate. Who knew hot dogs would be such an exciting snack at 8 a.m.?

We ended the month with an Easter egg hunt that was much loved by all the programs and they received prizes for their efforts. For groups in grades 1-5, they had to find half an egg with a math equation and had to find the matching egg with the answer to get a prize. They worked together, the older ones helping younger, to ensure everyone got three eggs, and three prizes. Worth the work I would say!

The rest of the year is going to fly by just as fast. We are hoping to have one more celebration before summer kicks off. We have a lot of outdoor activities planned, as well as some fun spring projects.

To those of you who are coming to Camp Connection, I cannot wait to see everyone and continue the good times over the summer. And to those who will be returning next school year, have a fantastic summer and make tons of memories!

Summer fun fact:

  • The Eiffel Tower can grow larger in summer, due to the expanding iron structure in the heat!
  • Popsicles were invented by accident in 1905 by an 11-year-old named Frank Epperson

As always, any questions, please feel free to reach out via email: sjohnson@wisconsinyouthcompany.org.

See you next year!

Mrs. Samm
