Get to Know Staff:

What are you looking forward to this year?

  • Mr. Bee: Two of my friends are getting married.
  • Mr. Russell: Building deeper relationships with the kids at Shorewood Hills.
  • Ms. Kaylee: Graduating in a few months.

January Recap:

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a good break. Last month, we tested out our favorite candy cane flavors. We found out that skittles candy cane was the best flavor for the younger group and sour gummy candy cane was the favorite of the older group. We are getting back into the schedule, and the kids are slowly re-adjusting to school life again. One project that stood out last month was when Felix made a reindeer cup and he proceeded to teach all the other kids how to make it. I love the creativity and leadership he showed as one of the older kids in our program.

February Happenings:

In February, I will focus on compassion. I know the kids already do a good job at being kind to one another, and I believe compassion is the next step after kindness. I’m hoping we can learn more about compassion toward others but also self-compassion. As we learn and support each other, we will make cards for one another and create affirmations for the school.

Family Engagement:

Grade Spotlight: Grade 4

I want to give a shoutout to the children in grade 4 at After School! They not only embody the energy from the group in grade 3 but also the creativity from the group in grade 5. I always see them doing imaginary play or creating cool things with rainbow looms. An accessory for their hand was one of their cool creations. It took a couple of days, but they didn’t stop until they finished it. It turned out amazing! I’m really thankful to have their creative minds at program and I can’t wait to see what else they’ll make.
