We are anticipating a wonderful program year at After School Van Hise and look forward to serving your family.

Hi Van Hise families!

I can’t believe this is the last newsletter for this school year. The school year flew by and all the kids grew so much over the year. It’s been an honor for us to be a part of their lives and I hope all the children had as much fun as we did. It’s been a blast to have them and I hope everyone enjoys their summer!

What We Are Looking Forward To

For the next school year, I would love to focus on building our book carts. We have a lot of bookworms and I would love to see what kind of books kids would like to see at program. It’s awesome to see how many kids gravitate toward the books when program starts and when they request certain book series. It gives me an idea of what kids like to see and a surprise when it’s a book I’ve read as a kid.

Grade Spotlight: 5th Grade

I have to give another shout out to my 5th graders. Some of them have been with After School since they were in kindergartener or 1st grade, and it’s amazing to see how much they’ve developed over the course of their elementary years. I only have a handful of 5th graders so I wanted to give each one a shout out here:

Gus – I’ve never met a kid who loves to wear shorts all year round. Thank you for complying with our rules. My best memory was when you led a bunch of kids into drawing comic strips. You all always came up with the funniest character names and titles.

Jake – When I first met you, I was taller than you but that changed this year. It’s awesome to see how much you’re growing, and I know that won’t stop anytime soon. I can also tell you’re an awesome older brother and I won’t forget about our conversations over games.

Amelie – When you first started at After School, you were one of the shyest kids, but now you have a group of girls you call your friends. Thank you for introducing me to your Warrior Cat series and letting me see how good of an artist you are. Keep on honing your skills and I know it’ll take you far in life!

Dayanna – Even though this was your first year at After School, it’s been my pleasure to have met you. When we first met, you kept a lot to yourself but over the course of the school year, you started bonding with the other kids. I’m happy you guys were able to click and bond over each other’s art skills. Continue your love for drawing and good luck next year!
