Back2School Supply Drive Marks 5th Year with Increased Support, Higher Costs
Wisconsin Youth Company aims to provide relief to more families
Madison, Wisconsin (Friday, July 19, 2024) — Wisconsin Youth Company’s 5th annual Back2School Supply Drive aims to raise the most school supplies to date for youth in the Theresa Terrace/Hammersley neighborhood on Madison’s southwest side. With 18 donation collection sites around the Madison area for the community to drop off donated school supplies, the organization’s goal is to provide 350 backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary and middle school students at its 9th annual Back2School Block Party in August.
This year’s goal comes at a time when school costs are increasing. Parents are expected to spend $586 per child on back-to-school shopping this school year according to the 2024 Deloitte Back-to-School Survey. These rising costs underscore the importance of community efforts to support students and their families.
“We are thrilled to see continued growth and support from the Madison community for our Back2School Supply Drive,” says Rebecca Carlin, executive director, Wisconsin Youth Company. “The look on the faces of both parents and children when they receive a new backpack with all their school supplies is a mix of joy and relief. It means so much to support families in getting ready for kids to head back to school.”
Additionally this year, Fenrici is matching any backpack donation. For every donated backpack, Fenrici will donate an additional backpack to the Back2School Supply Drive.
Community members can donate new school supplies at any of the 18 locations listed below. Donations are accepted through Monday, August 12, 2024.
