4K Wrap Demand Grows

More than 70 percent of 4-year-old children in Wisconsin attended 4K programs during the 2019-2020 school year, according to reporting by the National Institute of Early Education Research. That number was down to 50 percent during the 2020-2021 school year. Though it is unclear what this upcoming school year will look like, if 4K wrap programs are any indication, more 4-year-old children will attend 4K this year.

Wisconsin Youth Company added two new 4K wrap programs in Waukesha County to meet the growing demand from Waukesha families for the 2022-2023 School Year.

“Childcare is expensive and can be hard to find, especially in rural areas. Many parents are relieved when their child can get into a district program. District-based 4K is affordable and transportation is provided,” says Rebecca Carlin, executive director, Wisconsin Youth Company.

In addition, Kettle Moraine School District is piloting its Forest 4K nature-based program this school year. The additional wrap program at Cushing Elementary will support that program.
