Erica joined Wisconsin Youth Company in April 2019 as an administrative assistance in our Dane County office. Erica’s hard work and dedication lead to a promotion to Waukesha Registration Specialist. In this position, she is able to go to our Waukesha office at least once a week. She helps staff in the Waukesha region get the information that is needed from the office. This includes, but is not limited to, attendances, new child registration information, and family updates. In addition to being the key person for staff in Waukesha, Erica also helps Dane families with their registration needs. Erica’s knowledge about the City of Madison allows her to go the extra mile in helping the families in the Dane region. When Erica isn’t busy at work in the office you will find her subbing at one of our many sites. Her experience in working with children has made her an important person to fill in the gaps where needed.
Q1: When did you start working with Wisconsin Youth Company and what has been your favorite memory so far?
I started with WYC in April 2019 as an administrative assistant and moved up to registration specialist for Waukesha families in October 2019.
I enjoy being able to visit school sites and interacting with children who are so curious to know the new person in the room. When subbing at sites, it is nice to sit with a few children and play a board game, time flies when having fun.
Q2: What is the most important thing you learned as a child that still applies today?
Let your parents or loved ones know where you are. Now that I am an adult, I still let my parents know if I am going out of town and for how long.
Q3: Who was a mentor you looked up to when you were younger? Why did you look up to them?
When I was younger, I looked up to both of my grandmas because whatever life dealt them, they handled it and kept going. They showed me strength and perseverance.
Q4: What is your favorite part about working with children?
My favorite part about my role at Wisconsin Youth Company is being able to provide all the parents/guardians that call or email accurate information about our programs and registration dates, and making sure they know all the steps to have their child(ren) be able to start our programs.
