Wisconsin Youth Company Celebrates 50 Years of Operation
Organization continues to provide safe, quality care for working families

Madison, Wisconsin (Wednesday, September 13, 2023) — Wisconsin Youth Company celebrates 50 years of providing safe, quality care for children and families outside school hours. Though the anniversary technically happens in 2024, Wisconsin Youth Company will celebrate its 50-year anniversary for the whole year — September 2023 through August 2024. Started in 1974 as the Afterschool Day Care Association, the organization’s mission was to support women entering the workforce by providing safe spaces after school for latchkey children. In those 50 years, the need for safe care outside school hours has only increased — especially through the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

“In 50 years, the need for after school has changed. Our organization has changed with that need. One thing that has remained constant is the impact that high-quality programs have on children and families. I’m excited to think about all of the lives we will change in the next 50 years,” says Rebecca Carlin, executive director, Wisconsin Youth Company.

Wisconsin Youth Company provides before school, after school, 4K wrap, and summer programs in Waukesha and Dane counties. In addition, the organization operates two neighborhood centers in Southwest Madison: Elver Park Neighborhood Center and Theresa Terrace Neighborhood Center. The neighborhood centers provide essential care and services to families in their neighborhood, from safe, quality out-of-school time care to community events and a food pantry that was established in March of 2020.

A formal celebration will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024. More details to come.

More information can be found on the anniversary’s webpage.
